Last Fall I went to a University High School football game. The University High School Band had trouble playing the National Anthem. It was embarrassing as the small band “honked and squeeked” through the song. It was a home game for University but the “home side” was empty. WISD has gone stright to Hell. WISD is truly one of the worst school districts in the entire State of Texas.

Why would the WISD even think of building on top of the fault line that runs through that area. Ask some of the people that have houses in the area and see what it takes to keep the property up because of it.I think it shows the thinking of the WISD board or maybe the lack there of is to build this big beautiful building that has alot of (prety) features with wasted space and wasted money spent to build something just because it is prety.Ans some of the people of the area will be proud of them till they get their tax bill.Swallow some of the pride and save the citizens some of their hard earned money.

Fred, That’s the problem. WISD has gone to long thinking and acting like there’s only one high school in Waco. I think that the student and staff will be very proud of the new school. Hats off to WISD for being brave enough to give something back to a community that’s had so much taken from it. I’m a University High grad and if nothing else we have always had a family envirnoment.”Once a Trojan always a Trojan”. Our band and sports programs might not be the best, but we are a family. There’s a new high school coming to town and it’s called University High School. “Purple Pride”

Jim, I hear your concerns about the fault line issue, but I’m sure the engineers and architects WISD has hired have taken that into consideration and have designed the building accordingly. Most home foundations only penetrate about 2 feet into the ground as where this structure will have support columns down to the bedrock. There are also going to have to be massive geo-technical and soil reports performed on the site before anything is built. The fault line shouldn’t give the school any trouble.

buried in the story, the point about the board deciding on the JH Hines schematic and design- This is a bad idea. Given the Wiley situation, the board should approach the community, let the residents of East Waco participate in a design charette to incorporate their ideas for the new elementary school, instead of making another top-down decision.

Poor planning, WISD board.

Thelma, many months of meetings were held to allow East Waco to give their input regarding the J.H. Hines/Doris Miller issue. After the community gave their approval of the Hines site, they then voted on the exterior of the elevation. The exterior they chose is now going to be voted on by the Board in tonights meeting. East Waco gave WISD great input on the building at those community meetings, why didn’t you go?

I think this is outragous!!! that is a bad place to build a school there, a lot of traffic and stuff. and instead of worrying about UHS, how about worry about GL Wiley and the next closing school Brazos Middle. By the way i went to top rated schools back in my day, Kendrick Elementry, University Middle & High. but even when i was in UHS it still sucked

You can move the school right into the middle of Hidden Valley or Badger Ranch…..it will still end up with graffiti inside and and out.

You can take the boy out of the hood, but you can’t take the hood out of the boy.

Word….

For those of you that say uhs is ghetto, just to let you know not all of us are! Alot of us ARE going to college and by the way the class of 2008 got millions of dollars in scholarship so that we could better ourselves!! So alot of you should think before putting down the students who will be future leaders! Just because we don’t have as much money as the students at midway doesnt make them them better or smarter! “money can’t buy you CLASS!!!

The last thing Alta Vista needs is Waco High to be even closer to it, or in this case, actually in it.

ONCE A TROJAN ALWAYS A TROJAN AND PROUD OF IT. PURPLE ALL THE WAY

See, the problem with several people saying that UHS is “ghetto”, is that Waco High is probably just as “ghetto”. Just because it’s in a part of town that’s not considered ghetto, doesn’t mean it’s not. Just because the school is in the heart of south Waco, doesn’t mean all of those kids are ghetto. My niece recently graduated from there and my nephew will graduate this year, and they’re far from “ghetto”. I think people who keep calling UHS that are just jealous that we’re getting a new high school in south Waco! Once a Trojan, Always a Trojan and proud of it!
