Steady hand? Lynch’s hand is taking steady HANDOUTS in the form of kick-backs form our horrible private jail in McLennan County. Unethical “kick-backs” is Lynch’s standard operating procedure.

Ah, Fred. Once again babbling on and on without any iota of fact to back up your feverish imagination..

Certainly if you have any proof of handouts, excuse me: HANDOUTS, feel free to write about them. As someone said, off your meds again??

What butthead wrote this article? Are you receiving some of the kick-backs also? The sheriff lied to his employees, promising them job security, then tried to sell them out. Then had the nerve to appear as savior saying not to privatize the Hwy 6 jail. Never having any comments about the 90+ thousand dollars he has received from the private vendor trying to take over the jail. Then telling employees it was a dead issue and we should move on. Then sending survey crews to expand the existing areas of the Hwy 6 jail so they can serve both the existing jail and the private one! What kind of gullible fools does he think his employees are? And for the term “rebelled”, the employees were fighting for their jobs! And for the financial security of their families! What nerve to print such an article.

Bill Whitaker responds: First off, name-calling doesn’t address the matter with any sense of maturity and certainly doesn’t lend credence to your argument, especially seeing that you’re hiding behind a screen name. That suggests a real lack of courage and guts on your part. Secondly, we have already expressed our reservations in this same space a week or so ago about the financial arrangements you cite. Thirdly, we stand by our recommendation for reasons ranging from experience to what we feel is the quality of the opposition in this particular race. Finally, we have written about the jailers’ concerns extensively in the Trib. Find another news media outlet that has covered this issue to the extent we have.

I think that the reading public has lost site of the fact that the contract allowing Sheriff Lynch to receive a salary for overseeing the privatized jail was approved by the Commissioners Court nearly 10 years ago when Jack Harwell was Sheriff. As a former employee of Civigenics I worked with and around both Jack and Larry on a daily basis. Neither was in the job for the money.

In fact, what is being left out here and unless something has happend that I am not aware of the Mclennan County Coffers have realized a very hefty deposit based upon those same contracts and prisoners.

I don’t want to see any of the current county jail employees lose anything however, in case you haven’t noticed the economy is in the crapper, the druggies will need to steal to support their habit and jacking around with ankle bracelets doesn’t do anything but allow crooks to be mobile.

Over crowding is a problem everywhere. Letting crooks out of jail is not the way to handle the problem. I don’t believe that CLEAT is advocating this type of response to this type of problem. BUILD MORE JAILS.
