Art movie alert: “Bottle Shock” coming Sept. 5

For you fans of Sideways, Alan Rickman or human-scaled films, Bottle Shock will come to Waco’s Starplex Galaxy 16 on Sept. 5, the theater chain’s PR rep tells me.
It’s the true story of a father (Bill Pullman) and son (Chris Pine) who run a small California winery and whose Chardonay tops snootier French vintages in a 1976 taste test, thus putting California on the world’s wine map. Rickman, whose performances often are delicious in their own right, plays the operator of a slumping Parisian wine shop who decides to give the American wine a chance.
Bottle Shock caught a lot of critical attention at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. Given the bottom-of-the-barrel movie releases that tend to fill the weeks of late August and early September, it may be worth a taste.

I appreciate the ‘heads up’ for the movie, ‘Bottle Shock’. I’ve been reading reviews about it all summer in a variety of wine publications. I was afraid it wouldn’t make it to Waco. It’s actually coming only a month after opening to the rest of the country. Most wine lovers are familiar with the true story (told in Bottle Shock)that started the wine revolution in America. Texas now has over 150 wineries-AMAZING!
