Mason board meets Thursday
No, you haven’t missed anything in Mason schools. The Mason City Schools board of education did not meet Tuesday, June 24. Instead, the district moved the meeting to Thursday, June 26. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Mason High School, 6100 Mason-Montgomery Road.
On the agenda: Expected board approval of a transfer of about $60,000 from the Ken and Joan Campbell Trust to the newly formed Mason Schools Foundation. The foundation was established last year to provide grant money to the teachers in the district for projects and other activities to promote academic, artistic and athletic excellence in students.
Grant monies will be used for activities that go “above and beyond the scope of the district’s budget and offer unique depth and breadth to our students’ educational experience,” organizers said.
The foundation will also connect alumni and be a place to give back to the district.

Kings Local Schools centralized registration
Parents in the Kings Local Schools District now have a centralized location at which to register their children for school. Registration began Tuesday, July 1 at the Kings Education Center, 1797 King Ave. In an anouncement, the district advised parents to “meet with new Central Registrar…Tamy Schnetzer, if you have moved to a new address still within the Kings district or if you are registering a new student to update records. At that time, you will be required to complete a change of address form, show proof of address, sign an affidavit that will be notarized by the registrar to affirm your residency status, and complete a new transportation form.”
The district advises parents to bring the following to register your student:
- Proof of residency
- Child’s original birth certificate
- Child’s social security card
- Custody papers (if applicable)
- Immunization records
- Parent/legal guardian’s driver’s license
Concerning the new registration, the district said Friday, “…Schnetzer will also collect and verify all documents pertaining to registration as well as communicating with building personnel about special student situations. Student address changes are maintained through Central Registration and must be verified and updated with other district departments.
“…Schnetzer also makes record requests for student situations that require verification. These situations include court ordered placements, open enrollment outside of Kings, verification of state student IDs, collection of assessment data from other districts, etc. Coordination and scheduling the spring kindergarten registration is another duty Mrs. Schnetzer has been assigned.
“If you need to change your address with the district or register a new student, please contact the Central Registrar Tammy Schnetzer at 459-2932 or e-mail her at centralregistration@kingslocal.k12.oh.us to schedule an appointment.”

Mason board changes meeting dates
The Mason City Schools Board of Education has changed the next three meeting dates for this summer. All meetings are in the Harvard meeting room at Mason High School, 6100 Mason-Montgomery Road, and begin at 7 p.m. The new dates are as follows:
- Thursday, June 12
- Thursday, June 26
- Tuesday, July 22
In other district news…
The district announced today it will temporarily close its tennis courts for resurfacing and building new courts.
The courts are closed today, June 6, through July 4.
“We’re looking forward to a better court surface for our student athletes and community members, and ask for everyone’s patience until its ready,” said Mike Brannon, the district’s assistant superintendent of operations. There will be a total of 12 tennis courts at the completion of the project.
