The Waskom Volunteer Fire Department will again be conducting its annual "Fill the Boot Drive" for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Members of the department will be stationed at several key intersections in the Waskom area and will be asking the community and persons coming through Waskom to contribute money to MDA.
For the past four or five years, the Waskom Volunteer Fire Department has collected more than $2,000 annually for this worthy cause, thanks to the generous support of the Waskom community. All of the money raised in Waskom's drive is used to provide services and programs here in East Texas.
The Waskom Fire Department has been conducting the boot drive since the early 1990s, an event that takes place during the Jerry Lewis Telethon.
Fire department personnel will put up flags early on Labor Day then will begin the boot drive, which will last until early afternoon.
Anyone wishing to contribute by check, can make them payable to the Waskom Volunteer Fire Department, with a notation at the bottom of the check "MDA."
Mail to the Waskom Volunteer Fire Department, Box 1757, Waskom , TX 75692.
