HHS students to

perform Disney show

Hallsville High School's theatre department presents Disney's "High School Musical Onstage! We're All in This Together!" will be performed at 3 and 7 p.m. Nov. 7 and 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Hallsville High School Theatre. Tickets are $8 and are available by contacting the school's box office at 903-668-5990, ext. 2149, or visiting www.hisdshow.org.

High School Musical takes on a new, fresh life when it appears onstage. A younger generation has discovered the fresh, optimistic spirit of this infectious musical. The students are proud to let their voices be heard, with a message that is not just for kids, but for everyone.

Disney's "High School Musical" began as a made-for-television movie. It quickly became the one of the most watched events in TV history. In 2006, the show swept through the awards season, winning Emmy, Teen Choice, American Music, TV Critics and Billboards Music awards. Two sequels followed. The talented kids from "High School Musical" are now known by kids across the world.

Now, Hallsville Theatre lets talented Hallsville students tell the tale. Newcomers to "High School Musical" will delight in the upbeat music and dance. Fans of the show can experience new musical numbers written just for the stage show.

The story is much the same. Basketball jock Troy and "brainiac" Gabriella defy the odds in the story similar to a 21st century "Romeo and Juliet." As the couple battles for the lead in the school musical, they also have to face the toughest clique of all \— the theater geeks.

New to the Hallsville Independent School District are directors Dwayne and Ronda Craig, who have assembled a cast of 70.

"There's a real story in the stage adaptation," said Craig, who relishes in working with the kids on the show. "Is it stereotypical? Absolutely because stereotypes are real conflicts in everyone's life. What makes 'High School Musical' special is how the characters really try to take the high road, to accept people's differences. And there's nothing trite in that."

High School Musical stars Kory Lee as Troy and Sarah Dickerson as Gabriella. Ayla Cook and Andrew Lockard play the super siblings, Sharpay and Ryan Evans.

HHS to observe

Veterans' Day

The sixth annual Veterans' Day Program will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the Hallsville High School Auditorium.

All community members and veterans are invited to arrive between 9:15 and 9:40 a.m. Veterans will need to register at the visitor's table to provide military service information so they may be recognized during the program.

The speaker will be Dallas Stone, a Hallsville Independent School District employee who retired from the U.S. Army with 22 years of service, including service in Iraq.

Please contact Dave Simmons at 903-668-5990, ext. 2089, or dsimmons@hisd.com for more information on the program.
