JEFFERSON — A third installment of History Haunts and Legends will be held Saturday for history buffs, avid ghost hunters and those curious about the unexplained things that go bump in the night.
"It's just a fun time, and the events are all a little bit different," said organizer Jodi Breckenridge with the Jefferson Ghost Walk.
History Haunts and Legends will be held at the new Transportation and Visitors Center, 305 E. Austin St., where registration sign-up begins at 8:30 a.m. From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., lecturers will illuminate things usually held by the dark.
"We always have the noon meal catered, and we always try to go somewhere different after the ghost walk for our investigation," said Ms. Breckenridge. "It's just a fun event."
Ms. Breckenridge has been hosting the Jefferson Ghost Walk for 10 years, bringing those curious and some educated in the paranormal into town for its unique brand of mystery.
"Mitchell Whittington, an author and lecturer of the paranormal, will speak," said Ms. Breckenridge. "He owns The Grove in Jefferson, believed to be the most haunted place in Jefferson."
It has been on several TV programs, and The Grove was on the October edition of Texas Monthly's top 10 list of the most haunted places in Texas. The Grove is also the destination for the event's paranormal investigation giving convention goers a chance to visit the famed house for themselves.
Another TV regular who will speak during the event is Ken Gerhard, The Bigfoot Hunter as seen on "Monster Quest" and the Travel Channel, A&E and the History Channel, she said.
"Peter James Haviland founder and lead investigator of Lone Star Spirit will speak along with his vice president, Tom Kennedy," she said. "Peter is really up-to-date with the people involved in this field — so he helps bring people to the event."
Other speakers include Derrell Sims, known as the "alien hunter"; The Ghost Divas from Oklahoma; Mike McCaskill, founder of Upshur Paranormal and Larry Flaxman, best-selling author and founder of Arkansas Paranormal & Anomalous Studies Team.
"Most people are coming in from Houston, Dallas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. We always have a few local people, but most of them are from several hours away. A lot of them have been before," said Ms. Breckenridge.
Dr. Rita Louise, clairvoyant and medical intuitive, will also speak. Dr. Louise is also the founder of the Institute of Applied Energetics, the author of several books and hosts a radio program. A recent addition to the line-up was John Cappello of Dallas, a visionary, psychic and medium.
Dr. Louise is also expected to deviate from her usual medical talk and share on the topic of "ghosts, spirits and all things that go bump in the night."
There will be a dinner break from 5:30 to 8 p.m. when the ghost walk begins. Special investigations will also begin at two surprise locations.
Tickets for the event are $75 and include a catered lunch. For more information about registering, call 903-665-6289 or go online to www.jeffersonghostwalk.com and use the e-mail form provided.
