Words and Voices tickets on sale

Thursday, November 05, 2009

Tickets continue to be on sale for this month's Words and Voices concert, featuring Nashville songwriter Wynn Varble.

The concert will be Nov. 14, 7 p.m., at Blue Frog Grill, 101 W. Austin St.

Tickets are $15.

According to Varble's Web site, www.wynnvarble.com, the country music singer, who grew up in Ellenwood, Ga., taught himself to play guitar at age 15. He worked at honing his craft, mastering basic chord progressions, and by age 16, he formed a bluegrass band.

After graduating high school, Wynn started on the path to musical success playing the club circuit and landing gigs from Austin to Ft. Lauderdale.

In 1982, he visited Nashville and spent several months writing with then-up-and-coming singer/songwriter Dave Gibson. Having assimilated into the Nashville music community, Varble completely relocated to the area in 1992. He was signed to the Starstruck Writers Group in 1994 and later joined the Warner/Chappell writing staff.

Wynn had his first number one song "Have You Forgotten" with Darryl Worley in 2003. The song has been nominated for Song of the Year by the CMA (Country Music Association) Awards. The Nashville Songwriters Association International also named him Songwriter of the Year. His song, "Waitin' on a Woman," which he co-wrote with Don Sampson also won Song of the Year. The song was on two of Brad Paisley's albums, "Time Well wasted," released in 2005 and "5th Gear," released in 2007. In September 2008, it was number one on Billboard's country charts.

Wynn's songs have been recorded by a range of artists including Garth Brooks, Lee Ann Womack, Brad Paisley, Darryl Worley, Montgomery Gentry, Jason Sellers, Gary Allan, Trace Adkins, Clint Daniels, Kevin Denney, Tracy Byrd, The Kinleys, Chris LeDoux, Danni Leigh, Mark Chesnutt and Sammy Kershaw.
