Health Tip: Treating Colic

(HealthDay News) -- Colic is a broad medical condition that occurs when an infant appears overly fussy and cries for more than three hours a day. Doctors aren't sure what causes the condition, which usually affects babies between 3 weeks and 6 weeks old, and commonly subsides by age three months.

To help soothe your baby, the Nemours Foundation suggests walking her around or placing her on her belly in your lap and stroking her back. Some babies also find an infant swing or a ride in the car comforting.

Frequent burpings during feedings may ease colic. Many babies also respond to a dose of quiet, soothing music, the foundation advises.
