D-LINK DIR-655 EXTREME N WIRELESS ROUTER

$119.99 at amazon.com

With wireless toys becoming commonplace, a speedy router is a critical piece of equipment. This solid unit from D-Link moves about 10 times as much data per second as 802.11g routers, and has much greater range.

An "n draft" wireless card (about $60) will be needed in computers to realize any increase in speed. The DIR-655 analyzes incoming and outgoing data and gives priority to delay-sensitive transmissions, which can help avoid dropouts in VoIP phone conversations or lag in online gaming. Backward compatible with all 802.11g and 802.11b devices.

PNY 8800 GT 512MB GRAPHICS CARD

$249.99 at newegg.com

Christmas means awesome video games, but to enjoy the visual spectacle of "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" or "Gears of War," many computers will need a graphic card upgrade.

The recently released GeForce 8800 GT series of cards puts a lot of graphic horsepower under the desktop's hood at a reasonable price. The PNY card features 512 megabytes of memory and has a five-year warranty with registration.
