Attorney Michael C. Smith was honored by the State Bar of Texas for his exceptional contribution in 2010 to the bar's continuing legal education efforts. Smith was one of eight volunteer lawyers receiving an award from the start of TexasBarCLE, the bar's division for providing continuing legal education and one of the premier providers in the nation.
The award is inscribed the "A Standing Ovation-Staff Appreciation for an Outstanding Volunteer of 2010".
Patrick Nester, direction of the TexasBarCLE, explained the significance of the awards.
"All of our volunteers deserved our gratitude for contributing to the continuing education of their peers. Nevertheless, some stand out each year for extraordinary dedication and commitment. The staff looks forward to singling out individuals that not only gave enormously to our efforts, but also were gracious, easy to work with, and oftentimes, helped us out in a real pinch," said Nester.
The staff has high praise for Smith for giving generously of his time in course planning meetings, as well as for offering insights into topics and speaker suggestions. For the last dozen years or so, he averaged presenting at TexasBarCLE courses at least twice a year, accompanied by articles that set a high standard for scholarship and resulting in excellent feedback from course attendees.
