The tenth anniversary of the Polly Cargill Nursing Scholarship Program will be celebrated when Jerry Cargill and Jack Cargill award the 2012 Polly Cargill Nursing Scholarships at 3:30 p.m. on May 31 at Good Shepherd Medical Center – Marshall.
Awardees Noemi Vences, Colby Waskom, and Delicia Werner will be honored at a reception hosted by the Marshall Hospital Foundation.
Ms. Vences is a student at East Texas Baptist University, Ms. Waskom attends Panola College, and Ms. Werner is a student at Kilgore College. The featured speaker will be Paula Brandon, Vice President for Patient Care at GSMC-Marshall.
Selected from a field of regional applicants, honorees will receive $1,000 per semester for the 2012-2013 school year. Among guidelines for selection were a grade point average of 3.0 or above and an observable commitment to nursing as noted in recommendations by teachers and supervisors.
The Cargill brothers, to honor the memory of their mother, established the scholarship fund in 2003. The Cargill's were longtime residents of Marshall and Harrison County. The ongoing scholarship program supports quality healthcare in East Texas and provides an opportunity for aspiring nurses to reach their goals. To date, thirty-two scholarships have been designated.
