ETBU quarterback Jake McClain was recently named a nominee to the Allstate Good Works team for his hard work and dedication in the community.
"Jake is a great guy," ETBU head coach Josh Eargle said. "He's highly involved in so many things in the community and it's a great deal for the city of Marshall. It's a great feather in our hat for ETBU. Jake is an outstanding you man."
McClain is flattered by the gesture but says he doesn't do all he does for his own recognition.
"I honestly didn't know anything about it until coach Eargle tweeted about it," McClain said. "I just talked to him about it today. I guess it's kind of cool, but to be honest man, none of the accolades are mine. I just do stuff for God's glory and to advance His Kingdom. Nothing I do is for my name. I'm not looking for glory."
McClain spends a lot of his offseason time working with Christian ministries.
"I'm involved with a lot of stuff, FCA here at ETBU, I do discipleship program disciple guys, another one called Journey through BSM," he said. "I have gone oversees. I've gone to Mexico and Honduras and I've worked with several various summer camps for churches. I also did community service for the football team."
McClain added it's not always easy to balance all the activities on top of school and football but says he draws strength from God.
"It's tough sometimes," he said. "I have a lot of sleepless nights but my strength completely comes from the Lord. He doesn't put more on my plate than I can handle and if I try too much, He lets me know."
