During the 2009 Texas Extension Education Association State Conference in San Angelo recently, Harrison County members were awarded the Outstanding County Education Award.
Club members presented several programs such as emergency preparedness, heart disease and identity theft during their club meetings. This award was given based on the number of volunteer hours donated by members of the clubs in various programs and community activities. Members contributed more than 2,600 hours in addition to resources over the past year toward community and program activities.
What is the Texas Extension Education Association? It is an organization of individuals who stress family values, support education, develop leadership skills and provide service to the community.
Harrison County has three clubs: Leigh Lotta Latex EEA, Sabine EEA and Town and Country EEA Club. Each club meets once a month and discusses a variety of educational topics.
Harrison Extension Education Association, formerly known as the Home Demonstration Club, hosts the annual Cornbread & Bean Luncheon at the Harrison County Extension office every February. Much of their proceeds and volunteer hours benefit the elderly, local food banks, foster care programs, hospital auxiliary, the 4-H program and others.
