Pair of border arrests connected to deaths in other states
EL PASO, Texas — Border officers using fingerprinting technology stopped two men wanted in connection with deaths in other states, officials said.
The apprehensions by Customs and Border Protection came on consecutive days this week while both suspects were trying to enter the U.S. on foot over the Bridge of the Americas, agency spokesman Roger Maier said.
The first was 41-year-old Miguel Roberto Rangel Zubia of Chihuahua City, Mexico, who was picked up Tuesday. The Integrated Automated Fingerprint Index System matched him to an aggravated vehicular homicide warrant from 1988 out of Reno County, Kan.
A day later, 38-year-old Ricardo Esequiel Llamas of Aurora, Colo., was stopped. He was wanted in Adams County, Colo., on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree assault with a deadly weapon.
Both suspects were turned over to El Paso police. Further details on their cases weren't immediately available.
