Kent moved from Mass. to Florida

A disgraced ex-judge in Galveston serving time in a sex-abuse case has been moved to Florida over apparent security concerns.

A Bureau of Prisons Web inmate site on Saturday listed former U.S. District Judge Samuel Kent and referred to an agency in Wildwood, Fla.

Kent in June began serving 33 months after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice related to lying about sexually assaulting two female employees. Kent initially was at the Devens Federal Medical Center in Ayer, Mass.

John Gaither, with Community Corrections Office in Wildwood, said Kent was transferred to state custody Sept. 23. Gretl Plessinger with Florida Department of Corrections said Kent was at an undisclosed location, meaning "protective custody."

Defense attorney Dick DeGuerin said the 60-year-old Kent had not expressed safety concerns.

Kent has said he suffered from depression and alcohol abuse.
