Today will be the final day of early voting for two local ballot items and the Texas State Constitutional election.
Turnout has been low.
"The early voting locations were a lot slower than what we had anticipated," said Pam Brock, Harrison County elections administrator. "I had really thought that people would turn out more in Karnack and Woodlawn because they have local items to be concerned about."
In addition to 11 proposed constitutional amendments, some county residents can vote on whether Emergency Services District 6 should be established. Karnack citizens can vote in the Karnack Independent School District Chapter 41 election, which will dictate how the district spends extra money received from increased property taxes.
Early voting locations are the Harrison County Elections Office at 415 E. Burleson St., the Woodlawn Community Center at 199 Oaklawn Terrace and Karnack's T.J. Taylor Community Center at 15642 Farm-to-Market Road 134.
All three locations will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.
On Wednesday, only 13 people voted in Waskom and 21 voted in Karnack. Voting results for Thursday were unavailable by press time. However, weather conditions Friday were expected to keep the numbers low.
Ms. Brock added that the early voting locations are meant to be a convenience to voters as they can cast early ballots at any of the three locations no matter which precinct they normally vote in.
"It's very discouraging to have such a low turnout," she said. "People need to take a greater interest in voting."
Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Six Harrison County voting centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters will need to cast their ballot in their own precinct.
Precincts 12, 13, 19 and 25 should vote at Hallsville's Gold Hall, 101 Elm St.
Precincts 15, 16, 23 and 24 should vote at Harleton Community Center, 4335 Community St.
Precincts 6, 7 and 20 should vote at Waskom Sub-courthouse, 165 Texas Ave. W.
Precincts 4, 9, 14 and 18 should vote at Woodlawn Community Center, 199 Oaklawn Terrace.
Precincts 5 and 17 should vote at Karnack's T.J. Taylor Community Center, 15642 Farm-to-Market Road 134.
Precincts 1, 2, 3, 8, 10, 11, 21 and 22 should vote at Marshall Civic Center, 2501 S. East End Blvd.
