No one hurt in crash

Friday, November 06, 2009

No injuries were reported and traffic wasn't hampered when two vehicles, carrying a total of three passengers, collided on U.S. Highway 59 Thursday.

Marshall Police Department Officer J. Arnold said a black F-150 Ford pickup truck and an orange Chevrolet Cavalier were traveling southbound on Highway 59 before the incident occurred.

He said the Ford, traveling in the outside lane, had attempted to make a left turn when the Cavalier, traveling on the inside lane, smashed into it.

The accident occurred near the edges of town.

"The truck turned left on the wrong lane in front of the car and the car struck him in the side," said Arnold.

An ambulance truck was dispatched, but there were no major injuries reported, officials at the scene reported.

Marshall Fire Department Battalion Chief Jack Hanson said also the damages were "moderate." The air bags from each car were deployed.

Arnold said two people were in the Cavalier, a man and a woman, and the Ford truck had just one passenger — a male.

Both of the vehicles sat stationary beside each other on the highway, facing the "Varsity Diner" restaurant, as officials investigated the scene.

Two workers from Highway 59 Wrecker and Transport worked to remove the disabled vehicles from the roadway, utilizing two large trucks.

A group of people, including a young boy, stared as the two vehicles were being prepared for towing.

Officials had the roadway cleared by about 4 p.m., but pieces of vehicle fragments could still be seen on the highway.

Street sweepers later swept them away.
