AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas A&M men's basketball team picked up its first commitment for the 2009 recruiting class with a pledge Monday from Naji Hibbert of DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Md.
Hibbert is a 6-foot-6-inch shooting guard regarded by the major recruiting services as a top-100 national prospect. He is ranked as high as No. 47 by ESPN, and is rated the No. 54 junior by Rivals.com.
Hibbert selected A&M over reported offers from Clemson, Florida State, Marquette, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Syracuse and Xavier (Ohio).
He averaged 17.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game as a junior after transferring to DeMatha from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore.
