This week's TAKS test has created a logjam of baseball and softball playoff games slated for Friday and Saturday.
With six Harrison and Marion counties teams — three baseball and three softball — participating in the bi-district and area playoffs this weekend, it will be a packed schedule for fans to choose from.
All six teams will be competing in best-of-3 series, which makes for no less than 12 games — and up to 18 games, if Game 3's are needed in each series — over the two-day span.
Here's a rundown of what to look for this weekend:
Harleton's baseball team will be playing the closest games to those living in Marshall.
The Wildcats (19-4) will take on Linden-Kildare in a Class 2A, Region III bi-district best-of-3 series beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Marshall's Maverick Field.
Game 2 will follow at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the same location with a third game, if needed, set for 30 minutes after Game 2's finish.
Harleton, District 18-2A's co-champion for the second straight season, was defeated by New Diana, 4-3, in a seeding game Monday. The 'Cats lost to Linden-Kildare, 2-1, in the opening game of the season.
The winner of this series will move on to face Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill in the area round.
Harleton's softball team will play one of its three games close to home, hosting Game 1 of its best-of-3 series at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Lady 'Cat Softball Complex.
The Lady Wildcats (22-7-1) will be taking on Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill in a Class 2A, Region III area tilt.
Game 2 will move to MP Chapel Hill's home field for a 3 p.m. start with a third game, if needed, following 30 minutes after.
Harleton defeated Redwater, 8-3, in last week's bi-district round for its first playoff series win since 2004.
The winner of this series will advance to take on the winner of Rivercrest vs. New Boston.
Hallsville's baseball team will also play Game 1 of its Class 4A, Region II bi-district best-of-3 series at its home ball park.
The Bobcats (22-4), District 12-4A's co-champions, will tangle with Lindale at 7 p.m. Friday at The Ballpark in Hallsville.
Game 2 will move to Lindale at 1 p.m. Saturday with a third game, if necessary, following 30 minutes after Game 2's conclusion.
The 'Cats will be in search of their first playoff series win since 2002, when they defeated Palestine, 5-1.
Hallsville's softball team, which wrapped up its second straight District 12-4A title earlier this month, will clash with Rockwall Heath in a Class 4A, Region II area best-of-3 series.
Game 1 is set for 5 p.m. Friday with Game 2 following at noon Saturday. A third game, if needed, would be played 30 minutes after Game 2's finish. All games will be played at Lindale.
The Ladycats (24-4) received a bye in last week's bi-district round. They will be looking for their first post-season series win since 2001, when they advanced to the Class 4A state title game, losing to Spring Branch Smithson Valley, 5-1.
The winner of this series will be matched with the winner of Sulphur Springs vs. Forney.
Elysian Fields' softball team, which also received a first-round bye after winning its second straight District 21-2A title, will take on Anahuac in a Class 2A, Region III area best-of-3 series.
The Lady Jackets (22-10) will meet the Lady Panthers at 8 p.m. Friday for Game 1, followed by a 4 p.m. start Saturday in Game 2. A third game, if necessary, would be played 30 minutes after Game 2. All games will be played at Lufkin Central Pollock.
The series was originally set to be played at Diboll but a shortage of available workers caused it to be moved.
Elysian Fields last won a post-season series in 2006, advancing to the Class 2A state title game that season before falling to Weimar, 1-0.
The winner of this series will match up with either Arp or Woden.
Jefferson's baseball team is the most recent addition to the playoff brackets.
The Bulldogs' dramatic 9-8, extra-inning win over Harmony on Monday allowed them to sneak in as District 18-2A's third-place team.
The 'Dogs (15-8) will meet New Boston in a Class 2A, Region III bi-district best-of-3 series.
Game 1 is set for 7 p.m. Friday followed by Game 2 at 1 p.m. Saturday. Game 3 would follow 30 minutes after, if necessary. All games will be played at Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant.
The winner of this series will advance to take on Quitman.
Jefferson last won a playoff series in 2006, defeating Pittsburg, 7-5 and 17-5, in a Class 3A bi-district match.
Elysian Fields' baseball team, which captured the District 21-2A title, will have a bye this weekend.
The third-ranked Yellow Jackets (21-1) will face the winner of Woodville vs. Kountze in the second round next weekend.
