ELYSIAN FIELDS — With 5:28 left in the first quarter, Austin Delk dodged through the middle of the Sabine Cardinals line for a 32-yard score to boost the Yellow Jackets to their first district win, 24-13, over Sabine in a District 18-2A match Friday night at Yellow Jacket Stadium.
Elysian Fields (4-4, 1-4) put up 200 yards of offense in the first half, while holding the Cardinals (3-5, 1-4) to only 42 yards.
The first play of the second half resulted in a Sabine fumble that was recovered by EF's Stanley Roquemore.
The Jackets were unable to convert the turnover into points and the Cardinals woulld hold them scoreless for the rest of the game.
In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals came alive, reeling off 13 points only to fall short in their comeback bid.
Delk starred offensively for the Jackets with 82 yards rushing and 68 yards passing followed by Tyrell McKee with 95 yards. The rest of the Jackets' offensive was good for 100 yards and eight first downs.
This week's defensive efforts were led by Jake Dickson, Roquemore and Bruce Woods.
Next week, Elysian Fields travels to Union Grove. Sabine will play New Diana.
