Should the inclement weather that has settled into the East Texas area recently continue into tonight, Hallsville will not be complaining.
Rain or no rain, the Bobcats (3-5, 2-2) already have an offense designed to play in such conditions.
"With the way we run our offense, fortunately, we don't have to change a whole lot," said Hallsville head coach David Plunk, whose team still controls its own playoff destiny with two regular season games remaining.
A road win over Texas High (4-3, 2-2) tonight would not seal a playoff berth for Hallsville, but a loss would not eliminate the 'Cats either.
Plunk thinks the weather will play a factor in the District 13-4A contest tonight, which will be played on Texas High's grass field at Tiger Stadium at Grim Park.
"It's hard to tell what to expect because you don't know what the weather is going to be like," he said. "Will the weather change some things for everybody? I think it will. That's going to be the unknown factor. We'll have to see who shows up, what the conditions are like, and go out and play the game."
Much of Hallsville's offense has been centered around workhorse running back Quantrail Johnson this season.
The junior has rushed for 711 yards on 128 carries after missing some time early in the season due to injury.
"Quantrail has been good for us all year," Plunk said. "He's going to have to be a big part of the game. If it rains, he's going to have to take over for us."
The Tigers, meanwhile, have also been a run-oriented team behind senior Kody Sutton (153 attempts, 763 yards, five TD) and quarterback Nathan Sorenson, who has rushed for 399 yards and five scores.
Plunk said it will be important to control the lines and keep pressure on Texas High in the trenches.
"You have to keep him (Sorenson) in the pocket and you have to get some pressure on him," the coach said.
"Those are going to be some things we are going to try to do."
And although the 'Cats are coming off a tough shutout loss to Longview last week, Plunk said his team is looking ahead.
"It's a whole different mentality in the program when you know you control your own destiny," Plunk said. "We've won the games we've had to win. Things have fell right for us in the district and we're in a good situation as a team right now.
"We have to take care of our business."
