LINDEN — The Linden-Kildare Tigers (5-4, 3-1) grabbed a 17-2A playoff berth by outscoring the Jefferson Bulldogs (4-5, 2-2) in a 43-22 victory Friday at the Jack Heatherington Stadium.
The Tigers took advantage of six Jefferson turnovers and amassed 360 yards of offense, and by virtue of the victory guaranteed themselves a spot in the playoffs that begin in two weeks.
Jefferson's control of the ball was about half that of the Tigers.
The Tigers held the Bulldogs to 43 yards rushing for the night. Linden-Kildare also picked off three Jefferson passes and recovered three Bulldog fumbles, including one in the end zone.
Linden-Kildare's Kenneth Harrison ran 20 times for 155 yards and made two touchdowns. He also completed nine of 19 passes for 143 yards and threw for two more touchdowns.
With 2:52 remaining in the second quarter, scoring began as Harrison had a 14-yard pass to Colton Watson for the touchdown. The kick failed.
Jefferson then scored when Devin Figures made an 86-yard kickoff return. Connor Carroll's kick was good.
With 53 seconds remaining in the quarter, Harrison made an 18-yard pass to RaShoderick Linwood for the touchdown. Greg Gaston made the successful 2 point run.
In the third quarter, Linden-Kildare's Cody Belyeu made a fumble recovery in the end zone, and Harrison's throw to Lindwood for the 2-point conversion was good.
Jefferson's Clarence Lee made a 9-yard touchdown run and also fulfilled the 2-point conversion run. Lee then made a 29-yard pass to D.J. McDonald. Carroll's kick was good to tie up the game.
Gaston made a 6-yard pass to Linwood for the score in the fourth quarter. Harrison's throw to Gaston was good for the 2-point conversion pass. With 4:45 remaining, Harrison made a 57-yard run, but the 2-point conversion failed.
With only 1:13 remaining, Harrison made a 2-yard touchdown run. Watson's PAT kick was good.
The Bulldogs must defeat Hughes Springs next week in Jefferson to secure a playoff berth. Linden-Kildare will face Ore City.
