JOAQUIN — Joaquin (7-2, 4-1) came out on top of Friday's mud-filled slug fest against the Waskom Wildcats (0-9, 0-5) in the Rams' 58-12 win at Ram Stadium.
Joaquin's Tyler McSwain began scoring in the first quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run. The Rams scored again in the first quarter on a 62-yard touchdown run by Austin Bloodgood.
Second quarter scoring began as quarterback Cole Leflett completed a quarterback keeper and then threw a successful 2-point conversion pass to Tyler Hughes.
Waskom first scored with 8:07 left in the second quarter as Wade Walter ran along Joaquin's right side.
All the remaining scoring in the first half was by Joaquin, as Leflett scored on another 14-yard touchdown on a quarterback keeper and Bloodgood scored on a 1-yard touchdown plunge.
The Rams led Waskom 38-6 at the half.
Waskom struck first in the second half as quarterback Zack Gillard scored a 65-yard touchdown pass to Walter with 1:13 left in the third quarter.
Joaquin took care of the rest of the game.
Ja'Derrick Norris scored on a 49-yard punt return, and Kain Yates scored on an 8-yard run.
Waskom defender Lennard Stephens intercepted a Joaquin ball with 3:33 left in the fourth quarter, but it was brought back deep into the Waskom territory due to a personal foul by another player.
Waskom was unable to score, and final scoring came on an 18-yard interception return by Norris.
Waskom will host Timpson for Senior Night Friday. Joaquin will head to West Sabine.
