ELYSIAN FIELDS — Elysian Fields (5-5, 3-5) showed the Winona Wildcats (2-8, 0-7) no mercy Friday night in their 55-6 victory at Yellow Jacket Stadium.
Winona started scoring on the opening kickoff. The Wildcats' Trent Turner closed a 4-play, 45-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. After that, it was all Elysian Fields, which scored on its next five possessions.
The touchdowns came like rain. With touchdowns by Tyrell McKee, Rodney Sutton, Brandon Goyne and Jed Crisp, Elysian Fields abandoned its spread offense and went back to a conventional "I Formation" to do all their scoring.
It was Senior Night for Elysian Fields, and most of the seniors scored in the first half.
Elysian Fields had 172 yards rushing in the half, with Jayme Ferro leading the way with 94 yards.
Things just got worse for the Wildcats in the third quarter when Elysian Fields received the first kickoff and drove it 55 yards in a 5-play scoring drive capped off by a 27-yard touchdown run by Christian Smith.
The 'Jackets kept the pressure on with two more touchdowns in a monster defense led by Rodney Sutton, who had 12 tackles.
Also starring on defense were Alex Macklin, Chandler Cisco, Bruce Wood and Christian Smith, who had two interceptions in the game.
Elysian Fields will not make the playoffs for the third time in 14 years, but the 'Jackets do finish the year with a balanced season.
