ABILENE — Mary Hardin-Baylor scored the game's only goal in the 61st minute Friday to slip past East Texas Baptist University, 1-0, in an American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship quarterfinal at Hardin-Simmons Soccer Complex.
The loss ends ETBU's season at 10-7-0. The Lady Tigers were making their first appearance in the conference tournament since 2006.
The Lady Tigers finished with advantages in both shots (11-10) and shots on goal (6-5) but couldn't solve UMHB keeper Allyson Sargeant, who finished with six saves. It was Sargeant's second shutout of ETBU this season, with a 3-0 victory earlier this year in Belton.
Erin Salyer scored the only goal of the game for the Lady Crusaders with a shot off a pass from Lexy Smith.
ETBU freshman goalie Tamara Carlisle finished with three saves.
The Lady Tigers lose just two seniors from this year's squad of 27 players. The rest of the squad will be either returning sophomores or juniors next season under head coach Paul Grant.
