WASKOM — The Timpson Bears (3-7, 1-5) defeated the Waskom Wildcats (0-10, 0-6) in a 28-22 thriller.
First half scoring was almost entirely in favor of the Bears. John Shaw scored at the end of the first quarter on a 15-yard touchdown run.
The Bears scored three times in the second quarter. Shaw was responsible for two of those, with runs of two and 11 yards, respectively. Rody Paige rushed for the conversion.
Quarterback Jaylin Rhodes threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Daylon Hooper. Shaw then scored a 2-point conversion.
Waskom responded immediately with a Wade Walter 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Jacolby Johnson scored the 2-point conversion to make the score 28-8 at halftime.
The second half belonged to the Wildcats. Quarterback Zach Gillard scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak. Trey Cade scored the 2-point conversion.
Walter scored again in the fourth quarter on a 7-yard quarterback keeper, but the conversion was no good.
The Wildcats had the ball for one final drive. They drove down to the Bears' 11-yard line with six seconds left in the game, but Gillard's pass was broken up as time ran out.
