On a more personal note…Emily my 12 year old daughter wrote some poems in her English class that touched my heart. 9 of her 12 years Emily has had 2 immediate families. Her biological father’s family and her biological mother’s (me) family.
Mr. Cover, Emily’s ELA MJHS teacher, asked the student to write poems starting with “I am from”. So here are Emily’s words.
“I am from a huge family
From my dad’s family to my mom’s
And I can’t forget my stepdads or my stepmoms
The place both Salado and Marshall
Are in my heart forever, I will remember
Both for long.”
To a mother of a child that had to be very adjusting to a new home life from 3 years old, it made me cry thinking she feels like she can be a part of both of us, and can love all of us including our new spouses and families. We have all had a lot of changes over those 9 years.
The road was long and still is, but it makes my heart happy that I know she is happy. Kids should not be put in the middle of fights etc of the parents. It is what is in the best interest of the child. A childs peace and contentment is not replaceable.
