Local merchant Suzzane Planchard is the owner of The Brass Trunk, a Marshall business that has been at its same location for more than three decades.
“I’ve had The Brass Trunk for 33 years,” Planchard said. “I’m in the same building, same location; we’ve done a bit of updating, but in the same place.”
The ladies specialty store carries two big lines — Kendra Scott and Brighton, both of which include jewelry and accessories. Sympli, Johnny Was, Joseph Ribkoff lines also can be found in the shop.
“Those are just some of the top lines that we do,” Planchard said. “We carry clothing — everything from fun t-shirts to sportswear to dresses. We carry gift cards and we do free gift-wrapping.”
The boutique also offers a wide range of products, including Lady Primrose lotion and bath offerings as well as seasonal and gift items.
Planchard said she prides herself on customer service.
“We are real one-on-one with our customers,” she said. “And I have met some wonderful people through my store that have become very good friends of mine and I would not have met them if I had not had this store.
“It’s just been a great adventure. I have great employees.”
Planchard said she’s a supporter of Friends of Marshall Animals, which had positive things to say about her business.
“’The Brass Trunk is the Neiman Marcus of Marshall,’” Planchard said, reading a statement from the organization. “‘They offer gorgeous high-quality clothes and accessories in a relaxing atmosphere where you will be treated like royalty. Suzanne Planchard has created an oasis of elegance and style in East Texas. In addition to being an esteemed local merchant, Suzanne is known for her dedication to our local community.’”
The Brass Trunk caters to all ages, Planchard stated.
“We get Shreveport business, Carthage, Longview,” she said. “We’ve really picked up Shreveport business and I think it is because we are the kind of store that we are. Shreveport just doesn’t have stores as unique as ours.”
Known for hosting trunk shows, the store’s next show is slated for Wednesday, May 1.
“We are having a jewelry trunk show — Ali & Bird,” Planchard said. “We are known for our trunk shows, and we do a lot of great trunk shows — mostly jewelry.”
