On June 1, 2013, at 6 o’clock in the evening, Ashli Marie Ackel and Britton Scott Plemmons were united in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony during a Nuptial Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Natchitoches, La.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Anthony Ackel of Natchitoches, La. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Melba Ackel and the late Mr. John Latief Ackel of Natchitoches, La., and Mrs. Barbara Soileau and the late Mr. James R. Soileau of Point Barre, La. Ashli received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Louisiana Health Sciences Center - New Orleans. The bride will pursue a career in nursing.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Royce Britton Plemmons of Marshall. He is the grandson of Mrs. Mary Plemmons and the late Mr. Royce A. Plemmons of Marshall and the late Mr. and Mrs. H.V. (Red) Peoples of Carthage. Britton received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas Tech University and a Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from New York College of Podiatric Medicine in New York City. The groom will begin a three year residency program in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Scott & White Healthcare System.
The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Craig Scott, cousin of the bride. Music was provided by organist Greg Handel, trumpeter Andrew Benjamin and vocalist Samantha Smart.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Anthony Ackel. She chose a fit and flare bridal gown of ivory French alencon lace over an Antique-colored charmeuse slip. The gown featured an Art-deco beaded feather-motif lace border and a Deep-v neckline. The traditional bustled gown was accompanied by an ivory cascade fingertip veil with attached blusher and ivory silk-satin sash. Her gown was designed by Yvonne LaFleur of New Orleans.
Bridesmaids were Hillary Ackel of Lafayette, La., Brittany Averett of Baton Rouge, La., Katelyn Chandler of Baton Rouge, Jaime Glas of Houston, Tx., Anna Hitt of New Orleans, La., Kathryn Holmes of Baton Rouge, Haley Johnson of Natchitoches, La., Kaitlin Simoneaux of Lafayette, La., Samantha Smart of League City, Tx., Megan Wheelehan of Bossier City, La. and Elizabeth Vienne of Bermuda, La. Paisley Griffis of Marshall was the flower girl.
Best man was Blake Plemmons of Marshall, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were Abe Ackel of Natchitoches, La., Nick Alford of Flower Mound, Tx., Dusty Duncan of Marshall, Drake Gaines of Marshall, Corey Glover of Linden, Casey Griffis of Marshall, Benjy Molloy of Spearman, Lyle Nicholson of Marshall, Eric Powers of Ft. Worth, Ross Roark of Dallas and Beau Smith of Marshall.
The bride and groom sailed down the Cane River in a 1965 wooden boat to their outdoor reception at the bride’s parents’ home. The grounds were adorned with candlelit white tables and cascades of lights hung from the trees. Encircling a great oak tree, the buffet table featured an array of Cajun delicacies, Natchitoches meat pies and Syrian dishes. Guests danced under the stars to music provided by a live band.
Serving in the houseparty were Madison Ackel and Natalie Simoneaux. The Natchitoches Events Center was the setting for the rehearsal dinner, hosted by Ruth Anne and Royce Plemmons, parents of the groom. A pool side bridesmaid’s luncheon was given by friends of the bride’s family at the home of Connie Scruggs. On the day of the wedding, the groom and groomsmen shot Sporting Clays at the Natchitoches Shooting Range, hosted by the groom’s father.
Following a wedding trip to Playa Mujeres, Mexico, the couple will make their home in Temple, Tx.
