Stage store closing

A sign on the window of the Stage store in the Longview Mall announces the store will close.

The Stage store in the Longview Mall is closing, and the future of other chain stores and restaurants in the area is uncertain amid bankruptcies and other hardships blamed on the COVID-19 pandemic.

A sign on the window in the Stage store says the store is closing and at "this location only."  Signs inside say all sales are final with no refunds.

An employee said no date has been given for the store to be closed.

Houston-based Stage Stores filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy two weeks ago amid the pandemic that led governors in Texas and other states to close stores and other businesses temporarily.

Stage, which also operates stores under the Bealls, Goodys, Palais Royal, Peebles and Gordmans names, did not respond to an email request about store closure plans. Other nearby Stage stores are in Marshall, Kilgore, Gilmer and Henderson.

Like Stage, Plano-based J.C. Penney filed for bankruptcy protection and announced plans to close stores
