A showcase of beauty and character is on display through May as the Marshall Art League presents its 2019 Spring Show at Marshall Visual Art Center, 208 E. Burleson St.

“The show is done by Marshall Art League and we commit to having the gallery in use for a full month when we do a show,” said Marshall Art League president Elaine Moulton.

The show kicked off Thursday, May 9, with an opening reception, featuring live music and a silent auction of exhibiting artists’ 8x8 canvases and ingenious artworks. Refreshments were also served.

“This is kind of the end of our season and this is the last (show),” Moulton said. “We’ll be starting up again in September. We’ll probably have another show in December. We usually do at least three a year.”

The league’s spring show features the works of Marshall Art League members. The organization boasts about 60 members that hail from Marshall and the surrounding area.

“The spring show is a show that is exclusively for Marshall Art League members. They’re all local and regional artists,” said Moulton, an Avinger resident, who participated in the show.

“We have Cass (County) and people from Henderson, but it is a local show,” she said.

The exhibition features a myriad of mediums, from oil and acrylic paintings to watercolors, paper and pencil drawings and mixed media categories. It also includes photography and pottery.

“They are going to see a variety of things,” Mouton said, inviting all to come and check it out.
