Waskom Christmas parade is Saturday followed by fun at sub-courthouse

Waskom's annual Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Waskom Lions Club, will be 3 p.m. Saturday.

Parade lineup for parade participants is at 2 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Waskom Middle School and community groups, churches, Scout troops, businesses, clowns, motorcycle groups, horseback riders, area bands and individuals are invited to participate. This year's parade is expected to attract a large number of participants.

Registration forms for the parade can be obtained at the Waskom Public Library and at Killion's Pharmacy in Waskom or online at The parade entry fee is six canned food items for each participating individual that will go to Operation Help, the Waskom area food pantry, and will be used to fill Christmas boxes.

Completed registration forms can be turned in at Killion's Pharmacy or at the Waskom Public Library or mailed to Martha Killion, Box 687, Waskom, TX 75692.

The parade route will go west on School Avenue, north on Holly Street to State Highway 80, east on State Highway 80 turning right at First Baptist Church, and finally turning right in front of the old First Baptist Church building back to School Avenue. Santa and several floats will be throwing candy during the parade and parents are encouraged to make sure that children stay a safe distance away from the parade vehicles.

As always, Santa will be on a fire truck at the end of the parade.

A special thanks goes to the Waskom Police Department and to the Waskom Volunteer Fire Department, which assist with the parade every year.

Following the parade, parents are invited to bring their children to the sub-courthouse to visit with the clowns for games, face painting, and pictures. For more information on the parade, contact Martha Killion at 903-687- 2510 or Peggy Peal at the Waskom Public Library.

The Christmas Parade is one of two major community events sponsored by the Waskom Lions Club, the other being the annual Fourth of July event at Waskom City Park that is on the Saturday closest to July 4.

Waskom Lions Club meets at noon on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at Simple Simon's Pizza.
