As Get Healthy Marshall continues to grow, educate and bring people together for a healthy cause, it is bringing with it new friends and new ideas.

Edward and Amanda Smith are dedicated with their program, Get Healthy Marshall, as well as extremely knowledgeable and excited to help Marshall grow into a healthier community.

Monday April 16 at 6 p.m., Get Healthy Marshall will hold a potluck dinner at the Marshall Fire Department Main Station in the Community Room, entrance is around back.

As always, these are free events. Friends and family members are welcome. Parking is limited in the rear but you may also park in front, or across the street at the Hospital/Life Center.

Remember to bring copies of your recipe to share, or at the very least a list of ingredients. THIS IS IMPORTANT! Some people attending have severe food allergies. They also ask that recipes be FREE OF PEANUTS due to the serious nature of peanut allergies.

Potluck guidelines can be found by going to

If you are not inclined to cook, several of our wonderful local restaurants will gladly prepare a delicious plant strong dish for you. Just call one of the following at least a day in advance, and tell them you want something for the Get Healthy Marshall Potluck;

Central Perks (903) 934-9902

Blue Frog Grill (903) 923-9500

R&R Bakery & Coffee Shop (903) 935-3380

They will eat at 6 p.m. and usually show a DVD starting around 7 p.m.

Please RSVP to only if you ARE attending the potluck. Having a head count helps them figure out the amount of supplies we need to bring.

Most months, a daytime grocery tour will be held on the first Monday of the month and an evening grocery tour will be held the third Tuesday of the month. Please note that these tours are about an hour and a half in length. There is no charge for the tours but you must RSVP to attend.

The April grocery tour will be Tuesday, April 17 from 6-7:30 p.m.

If you have a group of four or more and cannot take a tour at the scheduled time just email the Smiths at and they will set one up at a time that works for everyone. This is also the email you will use when registering for a grocery tour.

Tours meet at Kroger in the center of the Floral Department (out of the flow of traffic) and proceed from there. Allow about an hour and a half for the tour. To get the most out of your tour bring a pen and pad to take notes.

This is a tour only, so no one will be pushing carts. They get in the way of the tour. What they suggest is that you grocery shop immediately afterwards. This will help reinforce what you've just learned. Remember to RSVP if you are attending so that there are plenty of handouts for everyone.

Hope to see you there!
