Residents are encouraged to dress in their best white linen attire and attend a fundraiser this Friday in support of a local institution.
The second annual Wiley College "White Linen Attire Affair" will be 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday at the Marshall Visual Arts Center, 205 Burleson Street.
"It is a party with a purpose," Event Coordinator Shannon Levingston said. "It is the first big summer party in the area, so we encourage everyone to come out and have a good time for a worthy cause."
Tickets are $20 for advance admission or $25 at the door and all proceeds will go back to the college.
"It will go toward scholarships for our students, as well as general funds, but it is really not restricted," she said.
The event will also feature Disc Jockey Humma-Lumma from KDKS HOT 102.1 out of Shreveport who specializes in blues and old school style music.
"He is a very popular DJ and has a huge following, so we are excited to have him," she said.
Door prizes will be given away throughout the event, and free refreshments will also be served to those in attendance.
According to Ms. Levingston, they are looking to sell out to the capacity which is 400 attendees.
"We encourage people to buy the tickets early because not only is it $5 cheaper, but it is also first come first serve," she said.
She explained last year the event was held as an initiative to raise funds after Wiley College was named school of the month by the Tom Joyner Foundation.
"It was such a success, we decided to host the event again this year," she said.
She re-iterated the event is for anybody who would like to support the college, and even though it is not mandatory, wearing white attire is encouraged.
