Jefferson community theater sets awards ceremony

Jefferson's community theater, the Opera House Theatre Players, is currently planning the season-end annual meeting for the membership and Ynot Awards event which will be Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Excelsior House Hotel.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., a social time will be held on the patio of the hotel followed by a brief business meeting starting promptly at 6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., a buffet supper will be served to be followed at 7:15 p.m. by the awards presentations and announcements of selections for the Drama Scholarship and the Lucille M. Terry Cultural and Performing Arts Award.

According to theater board members, a surprise announcement will also be proclaimed during the evening's events and will remain a secret known only to board members until then.

This year, the Ynot Awards (that is Tony spelled in reverse after the Tony Awards in NY), are divided into two production categories this season due to the different styles of theatrical productions that were produced. There are two comedies and one musical-comedy. A fourth production, "O'Keeffe," was not elgible to be considered because it was an imported production from Dallas.

Those nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role are: Evie Mims, "Love, Loss and What I Wore," Andrea Johnson, "Love, Loss and What I Wore," Rachel Clifton, "Love, Loss and What I Wore" and "The Dixie Swim Club," Laura Perry, "Love, Loss and What I Wore," Wendy Looney, "The Dixie Swim Club," Fran Hurley, "The Dixie Swim Club" (April & May), Stephanie Ponder, "The Dixie Swim Club" (April), Dian Beaird, "The Dixie Swim Club" (April & May), and Cherry Eldridge, "The Dixie Swim Club" (May).

Those nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, Musical are: Elena Bach, "White Christmas" (Betty) and Andrea Johnson, "White Christmas" (Judy).

Nominted for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Musical are: Patrick Fortune, "White Christmas" (Bob) and Blake Langley, "White Christmas" (Phil).

For Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, Musical are: Christy Barnes, "White Christmas" (Martha), Linzi Callaway, "White Christmas" (Susan), Cherry Eldridge, "White Christmas", (Rita), Emily Elma, "White Christmas" (Rhoda), Shea Vogel, "Whte Christmas" (Tessie), and Sara Davis, "White Christmas", (Secretary).

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Musical, nominees are: Travis Smith, "White Christmas" (Conductor), Karl Frederickson, "White Christmas", (Gen. Waverly), Lewie Howard , "White Christmas" (Sheldrake, Doug Elder, "White Christmas" (Ezekial), Jonathon Elms, "White Christmas" (Mike), and MIke Davis "White Chistmas" (Jimmie).

Nominations for Best Production of the Season are: "Love, Lose, and What I Wore," "The Dixie Swim Club," and "White Christmas."

Director for each of the productions was Marcia Thomas. Linda Garcia was piano accompanist and Scott Imhof was scenic artist for the musical, while George Hellie was prop craftsman and set stabalizer. While Ms. Thomas is always a volunteer producer, actor and director, most of the others working on the various productions of any season are fully compensated.
