LONGVIEW - While it wasn't exactly an offensive showcase, it was just enough for the Elysian Fields Lady Jackets to advance to round two.

Jade Barge popped for 13 points to lead three Lady Jackets in doubles figures as they held on for a hard-fought 42-29 win over the Sabine Lady Cardinals in Class 3A bi-district play at Solheim Arena.

Sabine had whittled a 12-point deficit to seven with buckets from Genesis Willett and Kristen Stuart.

Just as the Lady Cardinals mounted a rally, Barge shut the door with back-to-backs layups for good measure.

Barge was joined in twin figures by Chloe White with 11 and Frankazia Boyd with 10.

Sabine (17-12) was paced by Stuart's 13 points in a losing cause.

The Lady Jackets (23-8) winners of 12 straight, move to area action and are to play Winnsboro at a site and time yet to be determined.

They took the air out of the ball in the opening eight minutes as Sabine clung to a 6-5 lead. Elysian Fields managed to take an 18-13 advantage to the break.

There were more turnovers in the first half than field goals.

Barge rained down a 3-pointer at 1:12 of the third as EF assumed a 29-19 lead that grew to 30-19 after Boyd sank the back end of a two-shot foul.

Stuart launched a money ball less than a minute into the fourth and Sabine clawed back to within eight.

Boyd, who was held in check much of the first three quarters, turned it loose in the waning moments when the Lady Jackets needed it most.

After scoring on a putback at 6:12, Boyd swished a turnaround at 5:29 and the lead went back to double figures.

The Lady Cardinals, as they'd done all night, mustered one last surge. Willett's running jumper at 2:20 started a 5-0 rally. Stuart went coast-to-coast with a rebound at 2:01.
