Wiley College Wildcats at home for weekend series

The Wiley College baseball team looks to add to its win total when it hosts Missouri Valley College for a four-game series Saturday and Sunday at Coker Field.
Both days will have doubleheaders starting at noon. The Wildcats (1-9) are coming off a 1-3 weekend. They split with University of Saint Francis with a 4-3 eight-inning loss on Feb. 10 and a 14-10 victory on Feb. 11. Wiley College lost 11-0 on Feb. 10 and 3-2 on Feb. 11 to Ottawa University.
The Wildcats improved its offensive production with 17 runs in the four game-series. They scored a combined total of 16 in its first five games against Louisiana State University-Shreveport and Texas A&M-Kingsville. Brian Scott Jr. is leading the team with a .300 batting average.
Last weekend, Brandon Bilnoski had another strong performance with eight strikeouts. After getting rocked in his first start, Emmanuel Pantaleon pitched six solid innings and struck out five.
This weekend will by Missouri Valley's first games of the season. The Vikings are coming off a 28-29 2016 campaign that ended with a trip to the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament. Missouri Valley returns 14 players from last season's team. Bryce Burdette, who led the team with 15 stolen bases returns. Turner Herbek is the top returning hitter with a .341 batting average last season. Jeremy Shull led the team with 36 RBIs last season. Mike Simanek is the top returning starting pitcher as he went 5-2 with a 3.34 ERA last season.
Through 10 games, Justice Brown leads Wiley College with six RBIs. Oswaldo Palacios leads the team with two stolen bases. Bilnoski leads Wildcats pitchers with a 2.25 ERA and a 9.45 strikeout average.
