Desmond Andrus, head coach of the Marshall Archangels hopes to bring the Marshall-Longview rivalry to semipro football when his squad plays host to the East Texas Crusaders out of Longview tonight in Karnack.
Andrus admits he doesn't know a lot about the Longview squad, but is confident in his own team.
"We don't have a lot of film to watch on them, but from my understanding, they're a great team," Andrus said. "They're working on chemistry just like we're working on chemistry with our guys. They have great coaches from what I hear. I think last week they won 49-0. So we're looking forward to a big game with them this week.
"The coaches have been preparing very well for this week. The guys are pumped up and ready to go. I just feel like we should have a very good game."
The Archangels are 2-1 overall as they prepare for their second of three straight home games.
"To be honest, I don't really feel like we have a weakness," Andrus continued. "I feel like we do everything good and right now we're still doing everything great. We don't really have a soft point or a weak spot. We do everything good, but we're still working on doing everything great."
Andrus added his team is healthy and ready to go.
"We rested two or three guys last week, so everybody is looking like they're coming in 100 percent so everybody should be able to play this game," he said.
Last week saw the Archangels defeat the East Texas Storm, 13-6.
"The community came out and supported our guys, rooted us to victory," he added. "Hopefully we gave them something to be proud of just with them watching us play. We just want to say thank you to the communities of Marshall and Karnack and the surrounding areas that came out and brought the kids to watch us play. Last week it was kind of nippy outside, but we still had a decent crowd."
Tonight's game is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Karnack.
