ETBU Tigers take 2-of-3 from Wildcats

After losing 14-2 to Louisiana College Friday night, ETBU's baseball team responded with a pair of wins Saturday, 9-8 and 13-0 to win the three-game series. The win advances ETBU's record to 12-9 overall and 6-3 in American Southwest Conference play. The Wildcats are now 14-7 overall and 5-4 against conference opponents.
The Tigers outhit the Wildcats 11-8 in the first game. ETBU's Zach Gartner went 2-for-3 with one run and three RBI in the first game. Landen Barns went 2-for-4 with one run. Conner Combs went 1-for-4 with two runs. Josh Warbington finished the game with two hits, two RBI and one run. Kyle Loson pitched three-and-two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on five hits, walking three batters and striking out five. Zach Compton scored two runs.
Walt Aldridge of Louisiana College went 2-for-4 with one run and four RBI. Sully Martin was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Jacob Buchanan pitched three innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and striking out three batters.
The second game saw the Tigers put their stamp on the series with a 13-0 win as ETBU outhit LC 15-4. Zackery Pierce pitched the entire seven innings as he threw a shutout while allowing four hits and striking out one batter. Connor Combs batted .100 as he reached on two singles and hit one home run, scoring three runs and had two RBI. Gartner went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Dylan Sumpter was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Jaxon Rader went 2-for-5 with 2-for-5 with one run. Landen Barnes reached on a walk, a single and scored two runs.
Barnes was walked in the bottom of the first. Conner Combs advanced him with a single. That set up an RBI single to score Barnes. Conner Combs then tagged up and scored on an RBI sacrifice fly from Gartner. That made it 2-0 going into the second inning.
The Tigers doubled their lead with a two-run homer from Sumper to score Sumrall, making it 4-0. Connor Combs added a two-run homer of his own to score Rader, spreading the Tigers' lead to 6-0 and forcing a an LC pitching change.
Compton scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth. Gartner doubled before scoring on an RBI from Casey Combs to make the score 8-0. Warbington hit a two-run single to score Barnes and Conner Combs, spreading the Tigers' lead to 10-0. With bases loaded, Gartner was Somrall was walked and that scored Gartner, making the score 11-0. Casey Combs hit a two-RBI single to score Warbington and Sumrall to put the nail in the coffin and seal up the Tigers 13-0 win.
ETBU is slated to return to action Friday when it beings a three-game series at home against Sul Ross State.
