College signing days have always been an important milestone in athletes’ lives across the country as they close the chapter on their high school years and open a new chapter for college life.
Thanks to a new event at Marshall High School on Friday, now students who were high level academic achievers can now also experience that milestone as the school hosted its first ever Marshall High School Academic Signing Day.
The participating Marshall High School seniors on Friday were celebrated for their hard work and academic achievement as they embark on their next step at their college or university of their choice.
“Academic Signing Day was for all students who had already been accepted to a college or university and were committed to going to a college,” Marshall High School Principal Tina Brown said Friday. “We wanted to honor all students who were college-bound.”
While signing days have historically been for athletes signing to a college athletic program, Brown said Academic Signing Days are just important.
“We wanted to honor every student, not just athletes, who were headed to college,” Brown said. “And also, we wanted to let the underclassmen see the importance.”
Brown said about 75 graduating Marshall High School seniors participated in the Academic Signing Day on Friday.
