Those looking to celebrate the nation’s birthday while having fun and raising money for a good cause can visit the Big Red Pride Fireworks Fundraiser sale going on now through the Fourth of July, benefiting the Marshall ISD band.

“This is our first time to do a fireworks fundraiser sale for the Fourth of July,” Marshall ISD Assistant Band Director Christian Guillen said Monday. “We did one during New Year’s and it did well so this is our second attempt.

“It’s turned out well so far — (Monday) was our busiest day yet and we expect it to get busier as we get closer to July 4.”

The Big Red Pride Fireworks Stand, located on Highway 154, about a quarter mile down on the right off of Loop 390 at the city line, will be open from 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on July Fourth.

“All of the money we raise from the fireworks sale will go into our band program,” Guillen said on Monday. “We have a big band trip to DisneyWorld in Florida coming up at the end of this coming school year, so any money we can raise will go to offset the costs of that trip and make it more affordable so our students can go.”

Marshall ISD band students have volunteered to work the fireworks stand and sell fireworks.

“They’re having a blast,” Guillen said as students fired off Roman Candles and Sparklers on Monday in order to get the attention of drivers passing by.

The band will kick off the start of their 2019-20 school year on July 22 with a leadership conference, then all Marshall High School band members will return on Aug. 1.

“The band has been growing each year, especially our junior high school band, which has grown exponentially,” he said. “We have a 95 percent retention rate at the junior high.”

While raising money for a good cause through its sales, the Big Red Pride Fireworks Stand is also offering up deals, Guillen said.

“We have what we call the ‘dollar menu’ where we have fireworks that are $1 or two for $1 — some are 10 for $1,” he said.
