JEFFERSON — Anne Watson of Marshall and her pup Jenny had to shorten their walk on Friday, thanks to flood waters that have encroached along the park’s walkways at the Jefferson Turn Basin in downtown Jefferson.
The bayou waters of the Big Cypress River have blanketed much of the concrete walkways at the basin’s park, thanks to months of rain in East Texas.
But, according to a forecast from the National Weather Service in Shreveport on Friday, those flood waters might have a chance to soak in and dry out, thanks to days of sunshine coming up this weekend and early next week.
Today is set to be sunny and hot with a forecast of mostly sunny and a high temperature near 92 degrees. Sunday will see more of the same with a mostly sunny forecast and a high near 93 degrees.
Monday is set to be even hotter with a mostly sunny forecast and a high near 94 degrees. Tuesday will see even more sunshine for East Texas’ skies with a high near 94 degrees.
The temperatures will continue to creep up on Wednesday with another sunny forecast and a high temperature near 95 degrees.
Thursday will see a switch up with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms early, about a 30 percent chance, followed by sunny skies and a high near 94 degrees.
The need for sunblock will continue on Friday with a sunny forecast and a high near 93 degrees.
