Eastman Foundation donation

Eastman Foundation awards the Christus Good Shepherd Foundation with a giant $125,000 check Wednesday to assist with the COVID-19 vaccine hub at the Longview Fairgrounds.

The Eastman Foundation has awarded a $125,000 grant to the Christus Good Shepherd Foundation to support the hospital system’s ongoing COVID-19 vaccine hub in Longview.

The grant is being announced this morning at the vaccine hub at the Longview Fairgrounds. The state designed the site a vaccine hub in January as a partnership between Christus Good Shepherd Health System, Gregg County and the city of Longview.

“We are completely humbled by Eastman’s generosity,” Todd Hancock, president and CEO of Christus Good Shepherd Health System said in a statement. “Establishing our vaccine hub was an enormous step forward in the fight against COVID-19 and along our community’s return to normal life. Eastman Foundation’s support will go a long way to continuing the important work of the Vaccine Hub Clinic and our goal to vaccinate as many East Texans as quickly and safely as possible.”

Since opening Jan. 30, the free weekly clinic has administered more than 45,000 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, according to Christus Good Shepherd. Officials with the vaccine hub expect to continue receiving regular, weekly vaccine allocations from the state for the foreseeable future.

The donation to Christus Good Shepherd Foundation for the vaccine hub is part of a commitment by Eastman Foundation to contribute $1 million toward supporting global relief efforts in 2021 as organizations continue to work through the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in their communities, according to a statement from Christus.

The funds will provide funding to human and social service organizations in Eastman’s site communities that provide needs and services for vulnerable and underserved populations, including organizations established to improve public health, safety and economic conditions for their communities by providing food, housing, childcare and health and educational support increasingly needed during the pandemic.

“While the pandemic has created significant hardships within our community, we remain optimistic that brighter days are ahead of us,” Eastman Longview Site Manager Andrew Coggins said. “The Christus vaccine hub is a tremendous local resource for our community and our employees. Eastman takes great pride in actively supporting our surrounding communities and many of our employees are committed volunteers in local organizations to give back to the area where we live and work. We are proud to be part of the solution as we continue to fight COVID-19 in East Texas.”
