The Greater Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce is working to celebrate local businesses next week during their annual Business and Industry Week celebration.

Chamber Director Stacia Runnels said that this year’s celebration will be very different from previous year’s due to the chamber’s inability to host their usual dinner celebration.

“This is going to be an unusual celebration,” Runnels said. “But it is more important than ever to celebrate our businesses who have persevered through all of the hardships this year.”

In lieu of a dinner where all of the award winners will be announced at once, Runnels said that the Chamber will be announcing one of the seven award winners each day via their Facebook page.

Starting Monday, the chamber will begin award announcements that will run through Aug. 11. Chamber staff will be posting the announcement live on Facebook, filming on location at the business selected as a winner.

Awards include Employee of the Year, Boss of the Year, Non-Profit Organization of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Large Business of the Year, Industry of the Year and the legacy award.

The event is presented by the Greater Marshall Chamber of Commerce and Marshall Economic Development Corporation in partnership with Genesis PrimeCare.

“It is more important than ever to celebrate our local businesses this year. Even those who may not have had to shut down, many have been working hard to help support those in our community who are hurting right now,” Runnels said.

Runnels said that winners will receive a goodie basket from one of a number of local stores and restaurants and a plaque with their award inscription.

“It has been a challenge to get everything moving, and get organized while keeping everything a secret and making sure it’s still a surprise,” Runnels said.
