Bridget Ortigo graduated from Longview High School in 1999 before graduating from Kilgore College with an Associates of Arts with a focus on Journalism. She then transferred to the University of Texas at Tyler to continue pursuing journalism with a minor in art history. She hired on with the Longview News-Journal in 2008 with Jack Stallard in the sports department then methodically worked her way through the newsroom before ending as a page designer. After a four year hiatus from journalism in which Bridget worked in the aviation industry - serving at Tulsa International Airport in Tulsa, OK, Natrona County International Airport in Casper, WY and Addison Airport in Dallas, TX - Bridget returned to the Longview News-Journal in 2014 as the education reporter. In 2015, Bridget transferred to the Marshall News Messenger where she currently serves as the education reporter. Bridget was awarded first and second place STAR Investigative Report of the Year in 2014 for Class AA by the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors. In 2015, Bridget was named Journalist of the Year by the Northeast Texas Press Association. Also in 2015, Bridget won first place in STAR Breaking News Report of the Year from the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors. She also won a Texas APME award in 2015 for Freedom of Information. Bridget enjoys reading, writing, traveling, going to the movies and is very involved in her church. She has two beautiful daughters, ages 16 and 14 and four adorable fur babies.
