Marshall News Messenger sports editor Nathan Hague takes a by the numbers look at Marshall’s 49-35 win over the Lindale Eagles Friday night.
■ 94 – Prior to kickoff, the Mavericks honored teammate Hayden Blalock who lost his life last week in an automobile crash. They carried out his No. 94 jersey to the field as the Lindale Eagles took a knee. No. 94 was on the side of the Mavericks’ helmets as the Eagles also had decals on their helmets with the No. 94.
■ 19 – With the win, the Mavericks set a new record of 19 straight district wins, dating back to 2016.
■ 1-0 – Not only is Marshall now 1-0 in district play but the Mavericks also had a 1-0 touchdowns-interceptions ratio.
■ 3 – The number of Mavericks to have accounted for at least two touchdowns Friday night.
■ 1 – Two touchdowns were scored from one yard out.
■ 3-1 – Friday saw the Mavericks win the turnover battle 3-1.
■ 4 – Two touchdowns were scored from four yards out, one of which was by Marshall’s No. 4, Lyrik Rawls.
