East Texas Baptist University softball player Beatriz Lara has been selected as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American. She was voted onto the NFCA All-American second team and is only one of three freshmen to be named an All-American this year.

Lara was selected as a pitcher for the second team by going 21-2 with a 1.53 ERA and 173 strikeouts in 164 innings. She was also the American Southwest Conference Pitcher of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Tournament MVP.

Along with five ASC Player of the Week awards, this is the third time this season that she was recognized by the NFCA as she would be named NFCA National Pitcher of the Week once and was recently voted to the All-West Region first team. She recorded two no-hitters on the year including one in the ASC Tournament.

ETBU finished the season 39-6 overall winning their ninth ASC Tournament championship and hosted the NCAA Division III Marshall Regional Tournament.


Two East Texas Baptist University baseball players have received a spot on the All-West Region team in Casey Combs and Zach Gartner. Combs was named the West Region Player of the Year and First-Team catcher while Gartner made the Third-Team for the outfield.

This is Combs second player of the year award following while also being named the American Southwest Conference Player of the Year. Combs led ETBU with 68 hits, a .417 batting average, 48 RBI, 19 stolen bases and 13 homers on the season. He also was the ASC Hitter of the Week twice as well as being part of the Team of the Week on Mar. 26.

Gartner receives his first All-West Region accolade finishing with a .353 batting average and 40 RBI whole having 59 hits. He also scored 44 runs and hit seven homers throughout the season. He was also selected as an All-ASC first-team player.

ETBU finished the season at 30-14 and was the third seed in the ASC Tournament.
