Editor’s Note: This is the first in a 10-part series looking back at the biggest athletic stories at ETBU during the 2018-19 school year.

NO. 10

Leading off in the 10th spot is the ETBU baseball team and its shutout victory over No. 20 Chapman University.

Flying out to Chapman, California, the Tigers started their three-game series off as they blanked the Panthers 3-0. Derrick Findley earned his first win of the year on seven innings pitching, allowing four hits and striking out three batters. It was a pitcher’s duel for five innings until the Tigers broke through in the top of the sixth inning.

Leadoff hits by Casey Combs and Zach Gartner led to a run on a wild pitch as ETBU jumped on top, 2-0. Seth Mikeska added an insurance run in the topw of the eighth inning with an RBI double while Chad Boudreaux secured the win with a six-out save.

Though CU won the next two games to win the series, the Tigers were with an American Southwest Conference Pitcher of the Week accolade from Findley. ETBU finished the season 30-14 overall and 17-7 in the ASC.
