Waskom’s football team is set to begin practice bright and early Monday morning.
“Monday, Wednesday and Thursday is 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. Tuesday and Friday will be in the afternoon and Saturday will be in the morning as well but we don’t start until 9,” Waskom athletic director and head football coach Whitney Keeling said, adding his players are looking forward to the start of the season. “They seem excited. They were all there today to get their t-shirts, helmets, cleats and all that stuff, so they seemed excited. I’m just hoping we get to continue moving forward.”
Keeling said they’ll start with the basics.
“It’s more of a conditioning and start from scratch, inch along to try to get the kids game ready, scrimmage ready and learning the plays and all that kind of stuff. It’s pretty basic,” he said.
The Wildcats were originally slated to go head-to-head in a scrimmage against the Jefferson Bulldogs but that scrimmage was canceled. However, they will still have one scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 20 when they go up against the Troup Tigers on the road. Waskom kick off its season at home on Friday Aug. 28 when they play host to the Garrison Bulldogs.
